British bantamweight Vaughan Lee admits that UFC Fight Night Berlin opponent Iuri Alcântara is “the one fighter I really worried about in the UFC top 10” but conversely believes it is an opportunity to showcase his skills and embrace any fears. Hard-hitting Brazilian Alcântara is ranked No 7 in the 135lb division.

“It’s funny isn’t it. I was looking at him in the list of all those top ten fighters and I looked at Alcântara as the most difficult opponent in all of them. And then I get a call to fight him in Berlin,” Lee told Telegraph Sport.

“I’m over those feelings now and ready to embrace and face all my fears and prove everyone wrong,” he added.

“I was thinking about it this morning, that here I am again having to prove myself. But to move up the rankings and be a threat in the UFC you have to get the upsets and prove yourself. Alcântara has to get past my strengths to get to me. I have better stand up and better footwork.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I know he’s a big striker, with dangerous elbows and knees, but I’ve been preparing for that and I’m really up for this.”
